Job Summary

The Office of Professional and Continuing Education proudly hosts Auburn Youth Programs (AYP), a dynamic initiative that brings academic summer camps to life for over 4,000 high school students each summer. Our camps offer students an unforgettable experience, blending education, adventure, and the spirit of Auburn University.

As a camp counselor you'll play a vital role in creating these one-of-a-kind experiences. While Auburn University faculty and staff deliver engaging curriculum instruction during the day, counselors take the lead in organizing and facilitating fun, interactive programming activities in the evenings.

Counselors must be fully available throughout the summer and may only enroll in asynchronous online courses during their employment. In-person or synchronous courses cannot be taken while serving as a counselor.

Join us to make a lasting impact on the next generation, all while sharing the Auburn spirit and creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Essential Functions

If you're ready to make an impact this summer, meet new people from across the U.S., and enjoy meals at The Edge, becoming a counselor with Auburn Youth Programs (AYP) might be the perfect opportunity for you!

As a counselor, you'll help create extraordinary experiences for camp participants while developing leadership and mentorship skills. Meals and overnight accommodations are provided while camps are in session; however, counselors must arrange their own housing and meals during off weeks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Engage Enthusiastically: Actively participate in all camp sessions and activities with energy and enthusiasm, ensuring a fun and welcoming environment for campers.
  • Guide and Supervise: Escort campers to all daily programs, including dorm stays, walks across campus, dining hall meals, curriculum sessions, and recreational activities.
  • Be a Mentor: Serve as a mentor and guide, welcoming campers into the Auburn family and embodying the Auburn spirit to create a memorable and inspiring experience.
  • Ensure Safety: Maintain constant supervision of campers during camp-related sessions, field trips (both on and off campus), dining, and overnight dorm stays to ensure their safety.
  • Support Camp Logistics: Assist with camp check-in and check-out processes, distribute camp materials, and perform other tasks to ensure smooth operations.
  • Uphold Policies: Adhere to all AYP and Auburn University regulations regarding minors, housing, and other safety guidelines.
  • Complete Training: Attend mandatory counselor training before the start of camps, tentatively planned for the week of May 19th.
  • Additional Duties: Take on additional responsibilities as assigned to support the success of the camp.
Other Perks:
  • Meet students and staff from across the U.S., creating lasting memories and friendships while working in an exciting, dynamic environment.
  • Meals are provided at The Edge, offering a convenient and enjoyable dining experience.
  • Overnight accommodations are provided during employment while camps are in session.
  • While you may be enrolled in asynchronous online courses during the summer, you may not take in-person or synchronous courses.
As a counselor, you'll play a pivotal role in making AYP camps an unforgettable experience for campers while building your own skills and connections. This is your chance to leave a lasting impact while enjoying the vibrant Auburn campus and creating summer memories to treasure!
