Job Description
We are seeking a visionary Chief Data Officer (CDO) to lead our institutional research functions. As the CDO, you will play a crucial role in strategic planning, data governance, compliance reporting, and supporting accreditation and research initiatives. You'll work closely with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders, providing guidance and insights that inform decision-making and policy development. Your leadership will foster a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practices, ultimately enhancing student success and institutional excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic guidance on policy and planning to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Develop and implement a comprehensive data warehouse strategy that aligns with organizational goals and objectives, including defining architecture, design principles, and a roadmap for future data needs.
Lead the integration and management of diverse data sources, ensuring quality, consistency, and reliability through robust data integration processes.
Advance business intelligence (BI) and analytics capabilities, working with stakeholders to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and delivering actionable insights for informed decision-making.
Coordinate responses to state, federal, and organizational data requests, including accreditation and annual institutional reports.
Represent the institution to external research and planning groups, serving as a liaison to accrediting bodies.
Collaborate with Deans to evaluate student learning outcomes and educational objectives.
Develop and administer institutional surveys, producing reports that drive actionable change.
Create and implement a comprehensive institutional research and assessment plan that supports strategic objectives and accreditation standards.
Ensure the accuracy, validity, and timeliness of institutional data, establishing data governance and quality control policies.
Stay informed about trends and issues in higher education affecting institutional research, and explore best practices and emerging technologies.
Foster a culture of data literacy by providing training and guidance on effective data use for decision-making across various stakeholders.
Engage with institutional committees and collaborate with the IT team on data governance matters.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline, such as social sciences or statistics.
A minimum of four years of experience in senior or executive leadership roles.
At least five years of experience in institutional research or a similar role in higher education, including leadership of complex projects and teams.
Strong statistical and analytical skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to diverse audiences.
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with relational databases. Experience with Jenzabar, SQL, Power BI, and Tableau is preferred.
Ability to write and present clear and compelling reports and proposals for various purposes, including accreditation and strategic planning.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, promoting a culture of data-informed decision-making.
Excellent project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Understanding of best practices and ethical standards in institutional research, along with relevant federal and state regulations.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
