Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is currently seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join our Water group in Albany, NY! Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of projects varying from steel and concrete to site and earthwork with regular involvement with roadway, structure, utility, and environmental aspects, too. Our projects are unique designs and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged. Our upcoming project portfolio includes jobs on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country.

Whether designing a new water control structure, upgrading a hydropower dam, rehabilitating a lock facility or performing work on a levee closure structure, joining the Colliers Engineering & Design Team will accelerate YOUR success!

• Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates
• Steel, Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Timber design
• Work with senior engineers to create project designs for structures on or near the water (locks, dams, water control gates, moorings, etc.)
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret and understand drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects and respond to requests for information.
• Conduct field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction efforts investigate variables, obtain measurements, photographs, videos, and take detailed notes. Write reports documenting observations.
• Research and apply code provisions to design.
• Research design alternatives and document findings for project engineer/manager.
• Evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgement to make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
• Assist Project Engineers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
• Develop drawings by modifying or replicating a prior project, applying changes and corrections from redlined drawings, and/or creating drawings from sketches of others or from own design.

• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
• EIT candidates preferred
• Interest in Structural Engineering projects especially on or near the water; prior experience preferred but not required
• CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) skills are a plus
• Strong Microsoft Office skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
