Position Overview:

Calhoun-Burns is a division of Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. specializing in bridge design and inspection. We are currently seeking a full-time Entry Level Structural Project Engineer to join our structural team. Our team works with State and Local Government on bridge and culvert related projects. We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills to assist our current staff in serving our clients. This position will collaborate with our structural team members across our organization.

• Structural design and detailing for bridge, building and/or other structures
• Work with teams participating in planning, design and construction of structural projects, with future opportunities to lead project teams
• Client contact including verbal and written communication
• Ability to complete projects on time and within budget
• Periodic on-site construction observation
• Inspection and load rating of in-service bridge

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required
• 1-5 years of experience in structural engineering preferred
• Iowa PE license, EIT Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) projects and procedures preferred
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD bridge design code preferred
• Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred
• Experience with hydraulic design for bridges and roadway design preferred
• Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD preferred
