Position Summary :
The Albertus Magnus College Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling (MAATC) program seeks a full-time faculty member to deliver high-quality learning experiences and education for students in the program. The rank is open. The faculty member will engage in teaching, service, and scholarship activities and work collaboratively with colleagues across the College. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact, and reputation of the College and the program. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for both on campus and low-residency students, clinical, and studio courses. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. This is an in-person position.

About the Program:
Our MAATC program, established over a quarter-century ago and still the only accredited art therapy program in Connecticut, was one of the first in the nation to meet the educational criteria for a dual pathway to licensing as a professional counselor (LPC) and clinical art therapist (CLAT), in addition to national board certification as an art therapist (ATR). Housed in the Department of Psychology and operated collaboratively with department psychologists, the program takes pride in its high standards of clinical training, an extensive network of internship sites, and the many students whose thesis projects have won national awards for empirical research.

Essential Functions:
  • Deliver didactic and experiential learning instruction, primarily in the MAATC program.
  • Teach a load of 24 credits of teaching, primarily in MAATC, per year (or the equivalent of a 4:4 load).
  • Hold a minimum of five office hours per week.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students in the program as assigned.
  • Participate in community outreach and recruitment efforts, including review of applicants, interview process, informational sessions, and social media content for recruitment.
  • In collaboration with the program director and support staff, oversee the MAATC student organization and program-related events (annual art shows, guest speakers, alumni panels).
  • Assist the program director in completing program assessment, LPC state licensing educational requirements, and ongoing CAAHEP accreditation.
  • Any additional duties as reasonably required pursuant to the policies of the Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Program and the Academic Affairs administration.

Required Qualifications:

A registered, board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC) credential is required, along with an appropriate master's degree and at least three years of post-master's experience, including a combination of clinical practice and college-level teaching. An earned doctorate (in Psychology, Counselor Education, Art Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapies, or related) and/or a state of Connecticut Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) is preferred.

Experience:
Other desirable qualities include experience with graduate-level education and/or supervision of clinical trainees, familiarity with empirical research methods and current trends in clinical psychology and/or art therapy research, a track record of scholarship (e.g., publications, presentations at professional conferences), a track record of artistic creation (e.g., a personal art-making practice that may include exhibitions and/or juried shows), familiarity with accreditation or credentialing bodies, licensure (e.g., as an art therapist and/or professional counselor), and a history of service to the profession.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate will, above all, possess a deep understanding of the theory and practice of art therapy and the ability to convey this expertise to graduate students. The ability to speak and write lucidly, to listen and respond reflectively to questions, to guide discussions and activities, to edit and comment meaningfully on student work, and to manage course expectations - these are perhaps most essential. In addition, the ability to engage collaboratively with colleagues is crucial to success. Studio art skills must be strong enough to guide student work effectively. Computer skills must be adequate to utilize course management systems and program databases.

Working Conditions:
Evening and weekend hours are required.

Benefits:
Full-time employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision benefits. Full-time employees can earn between 18-23 paid time off a year. The employer covers tuition remission after 90 days of employment and covers 100 % (employees responsible for books and technology fees). The college is committed to work-life balance and has a summer schedule from June through August. We currently have 14 paid holidays, including a winter break. You will have the opportunity to participate in our retirement plan from day one, and after one year of employment, the college contributes depending on your service years.

Albertus Magnus College is strongly committed to the principles and practices of diversity throughout the College community. Albertus Magnus College is an equal opportunity employer and invites all qualified applicants to consider this opportunity and apply.
