MCPS Official Job Description Summary of Classification: Under the supervision of the Division of Special Education, the Cross-Functional Team Special Education Coordinator serves as a member of a cross-functional team, coordinating and leading special education instructional specialists within assigned schools. This role involves collaborating with the Director of the Division of School Leadership to provide services and supports, with 80% of time dedicated to direct service in the field, ensuring compliance and effective implementation of special education services. Responsibilities include on-site coaching, supporting school teams, integrating special education needs into the School Improvement Plan, and ensuring adherence to IDEA and related policies. The role also involves monitoring student achievement and behavior, coaching in data utilization, developing professional learning opportunities, modeling best practices, and engaging with stakeholders to promote inclusive and effective education for students with disabilities. Supervision is provided by the Director of Special Education, ensuring compliance and instructional impact. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of federal and state special education laws, MCPS policies, and service delivery models. Knowledge of MCPS K-12 curriculum and MOIEP tool. Ability to analyze data from MSDE reports and monitoring tools. Expertise in best practices for specialized instruction, assessment, behavior management, and inclusive practices. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders with cultural competence. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to ongoing professional development. Physical Demands and Special Requirements: As required by job duties. Education, Training, and Experience: Master's degree in special education or related field. At least five years of teaching experience with students receiving special education services. Three or more years of consulting and support experience in special education. Certification and License Requirements: Maryland certification for supervisor or Administrator I.
