Employment Term: As outlined by Boone County Schools -- 261 Day Contract
Salary: Commensurate with the Boone County Schools adopted salary schedule
Position Summary The Maintenance/Welder is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and welding services to support the safe and efficient operation of all Boone County Schools facilities. This position includes working across various maintenance areas as needed, providing high-quality workmanship, and ensuring buildings and equipment are kept in proper working condition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Perform general maintenance and repair work across all school buildings and facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC assistance, and grounds maintenance.
- Conduct metal fabrication and welding tasks such as repairing equipment, constructing or modifying metal structures, and maintaining safety standards during all welding operations.
- Inspect facilities and equipment to identify safety hazards, needed repairs, or preventive maintenance needs.
- Operate and maintain tools, welding equipment, machinery, and vehicles required for maintenance tasks.
- Assist in emergency repairs or urgent maintenance situations as directed.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and school system policies.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
- Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff, school administrators, and contractors.
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Maintenance regarding ongoing projects, needs, and concerns.
- Perform snow removal, debris cleanup, and other seasonal or weather-related duties as needed.
- Carry out other duties as assigned or identified by the Director of Maintenance.
Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in general maintenance and welding required.
- Certification in welding required
- Valid West Virginia driver's license.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects.
- Knowledge of safety practices and the proper use of tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Demands - Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments (indoors/outdoors).
- Ability to safely handle tools, equipment, and materials associated with maintenance and welding work.
