UPMC Horizon is hiring a Full-Time Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join their team of outstanding healthcare professionals! This is primarily an afternoon shift position with some midnight shifts as needed. Additionally, this role every 3rd weekend and 2 holidays per year. Travel to support both UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley and UPMC Greenville would be required for this position.

\n - Medical Lab Technician salary range: $19.71-$30.28/hour.
\n - Medical Laboratory Scientist salary range: $24.74-$34.48/hour.
\n - Sr Medical Laboratory Scientist salary range: $26.48-$39.25/hour.

Sign-On Bonus Details:
\n
Medical Lab Technician: $7,000 for a two-year work commitment
\n
Medical Lab Technician: $10,000 for a three-year work commitment
\n
Medical Laboratory Scientist: $10,000 for a two-year work commitment
\n
Medical Laboratory Scientist: $15,000 for a three-year work commitment

MEDICAL LAB TECHNICIAN (MLT):
\n
Responsibilities:
\n
\n - Interacts with all laboratory customers professionally. Responds to telephone inquiries courteously and in a timely manner. Practices pleasant communications both internally and externally.
\n - Meets established testing protocols for precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner. Recognizes critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follows-up according to established protocols.
\n - Independently performs Moderately Complex, or Waived tests (qualitative and quantitative). Performs High Complexity testing only with the oversight of a Medical Technologist, or with result review by a Supervisor or Manager.
\n - Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment. Recognizes priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.
\n - Performs and documents Quality Control according to established protocols. Informs supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
\n - Assists with the training and orienting of new employees, students and residents, using established competency and workstation operational guidelines.
\n - Monitors and maintains supplies for those functions for which the position is responsible; uses materials and reagents in a cost-effective manner.
\n - Processes specimens for analysis. Enters accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information as well as sample integrity.
\n - Honors confidentiality of patient information. Follows all compliance guidelines.
\n - Adheres to all established laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
\n - Follows all biohazard, chemical, and sharps safety guidelines. Maintains a safe work environment.
\n - Maintains instruments following procedural calibrations, quality control, and daily maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary.

MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST:
\n
Responsibilities:
\n
\n - Conduct, direct or assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation.
\n - Recognize critical, abnormal and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
\n - Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies in a cost-effective manner; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.
\n - Train and orient new employees, students and residents, as applicable and as assigned.
\n - All duties inclusive of an MLT (Medical Laboratory technician), and:

\n - Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.
\n - Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
\n - Assume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section/department on a temporary basis as delegated.
\n - Performs High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.

\n - Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA),
\n - OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent certification,
\n - OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
\n - 6 months experience in a clinical laboratory required.
\n - 1 years' experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
\n - Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.

Medical Laboratory Scientist:
\n
\n - \n
\n - Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,
\n - OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification,
\n - OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory,
\n - OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologist performing high complexity testing.
\n - 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
\n - Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
\n
\n - New York License Required for NY Locations.
\n - ASCP Certifications Preferred: \n
\n - Medical Technologist MT(ASCP),
\n - Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP),
\n - Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP),
\n - Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA),
\n - or equivalent ASCP Certification.

SR MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST:
\n
\n - Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program, AND at least two years' experience in a clinical lab as an MLS.
\n - OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND (ASCP or equivalent) categorical or MLT certification, AND at least two years' experience in a clinical lab as an MLS.
\n - OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least three years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) in a clinical laboratory. Minimum of two years' general laboratory experience if certified. Three years' experience in a clinical lab required in the absence of certification. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
