Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of the Project SEARCH Manager, the Project SEARCH Skills Trainer will provide supervision, support and assistance as needed to all interns during their rotations and demonstrate transferability of learned employability curriculum skills during intern rotations. The Project SEARCH Skills Trainer will collaborate with the Project SEARCH Manager to provide employment training to young adults with ID/DD in an integrated internship program

Essential Functions:

  1. Help recruit potential interns with intellectual/developmental disabilities for Project SEARCH program.
  2. Attend all team meetings for interns.
  3. Identify internship sites within the host business to identify internships that build a repertoire of marketable skills that lead to competitive, integrated employment.
  4. Ensure that internships include measurable skills gain that is assessed according to productivity, quality, and safety benchmarks.
  5. Attend regular Employment Planning Meetings with interns, families, and agency personnel to determine career interests, specific job preferences, skills, and abilities to design an individualized approach to job development.
  6. Identify and problem solve solutions for challenges that interfere with completion of Project SEARCH and gaining and maintaining employment.
  7. Use universal design concepts to design and implement accommodations and adaptations needed at the internship sites.
  8. Use VocFit and other assessment tools to evaluate intern progress, communicate with the team, and identify additional skill/task development.
  9. Assess intern progress frequently, communicate that progress regularly to the Project SEARCH Manager and make training adjustments and provide interventions for interns who are not making progress.
  10. Assist in the development of resumes/portfolios for each intern that document measurable skills gain, internship experiences, any certifications gained, recommendations, etc.
  11. Assist Project SEARCH Manager during employability skills curriculum in the training room and reinforce in the internships to develop skills, knowledge and work habits leading to successful employment.
  12. Assist in updating the Member Portal to maintain records of staff changes, interns’ internship experiences and employment outcomes including jobs gained, wages, hours worked per week, benefits taken, etc.
  13. Actively participate in Project SEARCH Steering Committee and onsite team meetings.
  14. Collaborate with the Project SEARCH Manager and onsite team to secure competitive, integrated employment at the host business or in the community.
  15. Coordinate travel training (when appropriate) through public transportation or other available transit methods.
  16. Complete all reports and documentation as required.
  17. Enforce the rules and expectations of the host business as well as the program.
  18. Model appropriate workplace behavior.
  19. Complete skills assessments at regular intervals.

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills that promote relationship-building with interns, families, host business staff, Project SEARCH team members, and other community agencies.
  • Organizational ability, self-directedness, and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions and problem-solve within a team of service providers.
  • Participate in events geared toward sharing the mission of CCARC, Inc. and increasing the interest of and referrals to the Employment Services department such as transition/resource/school/career fairs and networking events.
  • Assist with coordination of two Project SEARCH family nights per year.
  • Assist with coordination of the skills assessment day and interview process for all potential interns.
  • Attend assigned transition and/or Project SEARCH related training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Transition Program staff to ensure success of participants who desire admittance to Project SEARCH.
  • Follow Project SEARCH Core Model Fidelity.
  • Maintain all CCARC, Inc. Trainings.
  • Follow all CCARC, Inc. policies and procedures.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Reliable attendance is required.
  • High School Diploma / GED, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with people with disabilities varies with level of education.
  • Job coaching experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License, be insurable with Agency carrier.
  • Must complete the Agency’s Employee Training
  • Certification and training, including CPR, First Aid, PMT (Psychological/Physical Management Training) and DDS Medication Administration.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Neat and accurate record keeping.
  • Experience with Microsoft products, use of email and Therap.

Physical Requirements:

Person(s) in this job must possess the physical and emotional health needed for effective and efficient completion of duties. Must possess the ability to walk, stand or be seated for more than 4 hours at a time, stoop, twist and/or bend at the waist, lift above the head and lift more than 50 lbs. when necessary.
