About the Position

More Perfect Union is seeking an experienced digital strategist to help us expand our social media reach and drive conversation across platforms around economic justice, corporate power, labor organizing, and more. The Social Media Manager will direct and approve content on a daily basis for Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook and more. They will ensure that More Perfect Union’s social media pages are full of newsy, informative, and revelatory content on a daily basis, and support the distribution of More Perfect Union original video content to a wide range of audiences.

The Social Media Manager must be highly creative and enthusiastic about reporting news that impacts working people through social media and video journalism. They should be an excellent writer and editor and an innovative content creator, with demonstrated knowledge of audience engagement strategy. They must be an experienced manager and will supervise full-time staff and fellows.

Core Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Audience Engagement, develop and execute social media strategies that engage and expand More Perfect Union’s audiences;
  • Direct the daily creation of news-centric social media content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X, and approve social media copy, graphics, captions, rapid response clips, and more;
  • Supervise team members, provide regular direction and feedback, and support individuals’ growth and professional development; 
  • Make strong editorial decisions about what news to prioritize every day and how to frame stories in an accurate and compelling way;
  • Maintain an informative and engaging voice for More Perfect Union across social media, uphold strict editorial standards, and ensure content is extremely relevant to our audience and the news cycle;
  • Monitor analytics, audience sentiment, and social media trends, and translate learnings into actionable insights for team members on a weekly basis; 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet expected deadlines
  • Maintain high standard of work in a nimble, fast paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience, including at least three as a manager, working in social media strategy and storytelling, preferably in a newsroom;
  • Strong understanding of best practices, algorithms, and metrics of major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter/X. Experience with additional platforms such as Substack, Bluesky, Reddit, and others is a plus;
  • Demonstrated experience in significantly expanding followers and engagement on social media pages; 
  • Working knowledge of best practices and software for graphic design and video editing, including Canva, Adobe Suite, Descript, CapCut, and in-app software on TikTok and Instagram;
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools including Sprout Social and RivalIQ;
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage many priorities at once; 
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, work-from-home environment;
