Lighthouse Public Affairs is seeking a Lobbyist to expand our government relations team. The Lobbyist will act as a liaison between clients and the state government, growing effective relationships with state elected officials and agencies, as well as with partners such as trade associations, coalitions, and stakeholders in the legislative process. To ensure success in this role, you need to have outstanding knowledge of the legislative process and have a clear understanding of clients' policy areas. Top candidates will be detail oriented with excellent communication and people skills. We are seeking applicants that can thrive in our fast-paced, fun, collaborative, and high-intensity work environment. This is a full-time position is based in Sacramento, with the starting salary of $85,000 - $115,000.

Summary of Key Responsibilities: - Executing lobbying strategies for clients.
- Growing relationships with clients, and collaborating with coalitions and various parties involved with clients' priorities.
- Representing clients and ensuring clients' policies and positions are shared with government officials and appropriate parties.
- Assisting clients with their advocacy efforts, which includes drafting letters and talking points on legislative, budgetary, and regulatory issues as necessary.
- Internal Collaboration:
- Communicating government and other parties' communications and responses to team members and clients.
- Briefing/Preparing partners for client-related meetings with Legislators, state agencies and gubernatorial staff.
- Researching and examining legislation and regulatory proposals.
- Monitoring and tracking legislation, legislative or administrative hearings, floor sessions, and budget hearings, including the Suspense hearings.
- Providing reports for lobbyists and clients as directed.
- Legislative Relations
- Attending events and meetings such as legislative hearings.
- Educating government officials and stakeholders.
- Working to influence opinion leaders.
- Communicating with legislative offices, legislative policy and fiscal consultants, and other state offices on scheduling and to gather bill/budget related information.
Qualifications: - Five or more years of experience in the California Capitol as a policy staffer or state lobbying required. Registered as a lobbyist and or ability to register required. Established relationships at the Capitol preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in fields related to government affairs, public policy, and public administration required. JD, MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of California legislative processes.
- Policy expertise in one or more of the following areas: water, natural resources, land-use, housing, local government finance, and taxation preferred
- Knowledge or experience with advocacy coalitions to develop client priorities. Leadership in coalition efforts preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
- Outstanding people skills demonstrated by the ability to influence others.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to details are required.
- Ability to multi-task various assignments, prioritize work, and adjust to multiple demands.
- Ability to work under pressure and adjust to tight deadlines and some evenings.
